Sweet Onam Payasam contest -2013

Kick starting an early Onam celebration Lulu Hypermarkets, the region’s largest retail chain decided to win over everyone’s sweet tooth and held a Sweet Onam Payasam contest. The contest was held at their outlets on the 12th September and the entries for the contest started pouring in from 1st September itself. The contest had two rounds - the first was a screening round while the second round was the final. A panel of judges as well as many lucky customers present at the venues tasted different Payasam samples to choose the winner.

The winning recipes were by Ms Shirly John for Soya Chunk Milk Payasam, Dr Ranjeeta Sarangi for Rice Payasam, Mrs Jenitha for Dates & Badam Payasam, Mrs Shabana Sathar for Pineapple Payasam, Mrs Prazeeniya Nishad  for Mixed Fruits & Vegetables Payasam and Mrs Rathi P. Menon for Kadalapparippu Payasam.

Speaking at the event, Ananth AV, Regional Director of Lulu Hypermarkets, Oman said,” Onam is a festival celebrated with a lot of fervour by our Malayali customers and is one of those unique festivals that are celebrated with most number of cultural elements like the vibrant flower decoration, the lavish food preparation, etc. The Payasam contest is Lulu’s way of showcasing that celebration and festive spirit while letting our customers indulge in some great preparations.”

Apart from the contest that was a lot of fun and excitement, Lulu also put together a string of Onam specific products for a special promotion that offered its customers maximum value and great convenience. Many customers were seen stocking up on all the ingredients required for the Sadya which were available at a bargain. Also on offer was a special discount on all Eastern branded products and a Preethi mixer grinder.
